Many people have a fear of ageing. Of course we cannot stay young forever, but getting older doesn’t have to be something to dread. We know people age at completely different rates because we witness it regularly. And although genetics does have some impact, the rate at which you age is mostly down to your mindset.

When you think negative thoughts about your body, or your mind you are damaging it at some level. For example, “I’m too old to do that” or “My memory is getting worse as I get older”, and “I’m ageing badly, like my mother, and I can’t do anything about it” are just a few of the phrases, that I hear people say. They put blame elsewhere and take no responsibility for themselves. They stop doing the things that gave them energy or excitement and they give in to ‘the inevitable’.

I know that it really doesn’t have to be this way. When you can harness the power of your mind to look and feel far younger than the age on your birthday cards, then thats exactly what happens. You are you, and you can take control of how you age biologically by the exercise you take, the nutrition you give your body, and the stimulation you give your mind. Start by thinking good thoughts, then start doing the things that make you feel energised and then become it.

Start surrounding yourself with young people, or seniors who feel youthful and your mindset will shift. Age hasn’t prevented people running a marathon or writing a book in their senior years, because they didn’t let it. You can choose to stay positive about your age, and you can slow down the ageing process, if you want to.
