If you want to live a happier life then one of my top tips is to become an optimist.
Optimists are not victims to their environment. They don’t dwell on the past and they don’t try to control the future. They are generally more hopeful and confident about the future or their potential success, and they suffer much less anxiety and depression.
Research has also shown optimists live healthier, longer lives, so why wouldn’t you at least attempt to have a more optimistic outlook?
Most of us don’t even realise that we are running negative thoughts on a daily basis. We become trapped in the stress response and survival mode, which is not surprising when you consider how much negative information we are subjected to from the press and those around us.
We can become conditioned to focusing only on what we don’t want and seeing our futures with problems and difficulties. When you feel strong negative emotions, it is generally because your body is carrying the past around.
The good news is you don’t need to stay addicted to feeling bad because negative thinking patterns are just bad habits and out of date programming, which you are running unconsciously.
Studies have shown that people can change and become more optimistic. Of course changing ourselves and the way we operate can feel quite challenging to begin with, because when you make new choices, it’s going to feel uncomfortable and unfamiliar.
But change can start quite simply with new thoughts, which leads to new choices, new actions, new experiences, and new behaviours and this is what ultimately creates your new personality. You are basically stepping out of the old self and into the new self, leaving behind the old familiar self and stepping into the unfamiliar, unpredictable future.
So then, the first step to making changes is to become aware of what you are thinking. You then change your thoughts and create a future vision of what you want. Start thinking it, believing it and of course start taking action. Once you believe you can do something, you are more than halfway there.
You will need to let go of fear and remember that the future has nothing to do with the past. You are becoming the author and the creator of the new story and in this new chapter of your life, you have good luck, successful relationships and more happiness.
Because 95% of who you are is a subconscious set of programs, the best way to approach making changes is to tell your mind at a subconscious level that you want to be more hopeful and positive.
